I simply could not pass on this vibrantly colored, beautifully designed evening clutch made from fine Oriental silk. It was originally purchased at Gump’s, a San Francisco family-owned business founded in 1861. With all its merchandise destroyed in the 1906 earthquake, Alfred Livingston (A.L.) Gump received $17,000 for one of his paintings allowing for the rebuilding and restocking of the store. A.L. was passionate about Oriental art, so it is no surprise that this exquisite clutch found its way to the store most likely in the 70’s. All that is required is someplace to go and a little black dress.
